Leader of the presidential task force on COVID19 in Kano state, Nasiru Gwarzo has revealed that the rate of community transmission in the state is ‘now 80 percent’.
Speaking on behalf of the ‘Presidential Task Force on COVID19’ in an interview with BBC Hausa, Nasiru Gwarzo said about 80 percent of the samples received from communities in the state turned out positive for Coronavirus. He admitted that there is increased testing capacity in Kano state, but the state needs urgent intervention as the disease is spreading to various areas. Gwarzo said; “When about 100 samples were delivered, five to ten tested positive for Coronavirus. “Apparently, when 100 samples were returned, about 80 are verified cases of coronavirus.”
Nonetheless, Kano state came to be the second worst-hit state in Nigeria, yesterday May 1, with 311 confirmed new cases of COVID19.
