The executive governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi has announced that the state has recorded its 4th and 5th instances of COVID-19. The fresh new cases were two COVID19 patients, who were both in their twenties.
The Governor made this known through phone interview by the state’s broadcast stations in a program tagged Situation Room, which was specially anchored to give more information and needful awareness about the deadly Coronavirus disease.
Clarifying how they got infected, the governor said the 4th-case-patient returned from Lagos with the virus while the fifth case got infected by the third case at the Pa Oruta Ngele Stadium Abakaliki temporary isolation center.
“The 4th case is a 22-year-old boy who leaves in Ojo Lagos. He left Lagos on Sunday 26 and entered Ebonyi through the Nkalagu border. And from there, he boarded a bus to Ezzamgbo junction from whereafter he boarded a bus to Ede Ishieke in Ebonyi local government area of the state,” the governor said.
Umahi said the man was intercepted at Ishieke by the state’s COVID-19 task force and brought to the stadium where he was tested and turned out to be positive. About the fifth case, Governor Umahi said, “she was a 24 years old girl, who just returned with her family from the neighboring Enugu State, where she resides, but was brought to the holding area in Abakaliki in line with the directives of the state government that anyone who comes in from outside the state must be tested.”
The fifth-case-patient who was a hairdresser from Awgu in Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area resides at No 30 Queens close, kpara Avenue, Enugu.
“She was picked from Uburu to the stadium while at the stadium she had direct contact with the third case and as at this evening, her result came out and she tested positive for Coronavirus. However, the rest of her family members that she came back with all tested negative.” Mr. Umahi added that, they will be isolated at the holding area and been monitored for the next 14 days.
The governor while urging residents to remain vigilant urged members of the public to stay calm and not to panic as the state government was doing all in its power to prevent the spread of the deadly virus in the state. He said all the confirmed cases are doing well at the isolation center and that, the medical teams have been directed to go for contact tracing of all the patients’ contacts.
“I am sure that all the Covid19 patients in the state would have been cleared to go home in the next one week, after which they must have tested negative twice”, he said.
