Youths burn Police Station in Katsina

Commotion in Katsina State, as aggrieved Muslim youths in Kusada town, area of the State burnt a Police station after some police on assignment to distrupt their activities and stopped them from observing their Friday Jumat prayer.

Recall that on March 25th, the state government under the leadership of  the Executive Governor of Katsina state, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari who had earlier announced a ban on public gatherings including social and religious gatherings to prevent the spread of COVID19 in the state.

However, after the police prevented some Muslim Youths from observing their Friday prayers, some of the angered Youths stormed the police station, embark on riot, attacked and over-powered the policemen at Kusada Division, set ablaze the station DPO’s Quarter and destroy every properties which were located within the station premises.

Acting on this directive, the Police public relations officer, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the report, says; Policemen disperse youths in the town who were gathered in a mosque to pray. Their leaders were also arrested for not complying to the orders of the state.

Isah stated; “About 90 suspects with their leader, Mallam Hassan have been arrested in connection with the attack, one of the ravaging youth lost his life during the rampage.”

However, the Commissioner of Police, Katsina state Command, CP Sanusi Buba, has ordered the immediate deployment of the special joint security task force and mobile police patrol teams to the arear to stop further rioting and restores peace in the area.
