A young lady, Abiola Komolafe, has narrated how her aunty, Tolulope Bosede who lied to her that her baby died after delivery, not knowing that she sold her out to a child trafficking syndicate in Onitsha, Anambra State.

Bosede was paraded alongside other suspects, about 182 in number, by the Delta State Police Command in Asaba, for crimes ranging from child trafficking, rape, robbery, kidnap, cultism, and murder.

The state commissioner of police, Hafiz Inuwa affirmed that the child trafficking syndicate specializes in trafficking young girls and selling their babies after delivery. Inuwa said that the suspect was arrested, following a diligent investigation by the police. According to Inuwa, the syndicate which comprises three women were assigned to trick young pregnant girls to Onitsha to deliver their babies, while the young mothers will be deceived to believe their babies died during delivery, the babies would be sold.

Inuwa said; “In the course of the investigation, Tolulope Bosede confessed to the allegation that she tricked Abiola Komolafe from Akure to Onitsha, where she successfully gave birth to a bouncing baby boy, after which she deceived her to believe the baby died during delivery, and took the baby from her to sell to Mrs. Nkaneme Melife, 37, in Onitsha.

“The buyer, Mrs. Nkaneme Melife, also later sold the new-born-baby to another buyer, known as Mrs. Ekunno Ifeyinwa, a 56-year-old of Onora family house in Abba village, Onitsha.

Meanwhile, the two buyers have been arrested alongside one Josephine Unnoha and the stolen child has been recovered from them.” The police commissioner added that the arrest of members of the syndicate led to the recovery of another male child, who was two-weeks-old, suspected to have been stolen by Mrs. Ekunno Ifeyinwa.

Speaking with AsorockOnline, Komolafe, revealed that she started committing the atrocity after she allegedly lost her parents at a tender age and was forced to live with her aunty in Akure, Ondo State. She further clarifies that during her secondary school education, she was trained as a makeup artist and hairstylist, after which she got pregnant for her lover who denied afterward, leaving her alone unconcerned with the pregnancy.

Komolafe said: “My aunty promised to take me to a woman in Onitsha, who would assist me by giving her a nanny’s job to support my unborn child. I believed her because she was a very nice person to me, as she stood by me since I lost my parents. ”Shortly after I was unknowingly deceived to Onitsha, I gave birth at a hospital but I was later told that my newly born baby had died after delivery.”

According to her, she was very sad, following the loss of her kid, but never suspected any foul play. She said; “while on my way back to Akure, the driver of the commercial bus I boarded asked me if I had just given birth, that he overheard my aunty negotiating the price of a baby boy with another woman, and inquired whether it was my baby that was referred to. I was overwhelmed and told the driver that I had just given birth but was told that my baby died. “As we were going back to Akure, I have earlier planned with the driver to drive into any police station for proper investigation on my missing child.”

“On getting to Asaba, Delta State, the driver pulled into a petrol station, pretending to buy fuel as he raised an alarm that attracted the police on guards at the filling station where the suspects were apprehended immediately.” She said.

She expressed joy that her son had been recovered, and commended the effort of the police for their swift response to recover her baby from the criminals.

Komolafe’s aunty, Mrs. Tolulope Bosede, however pleaded for mercy as she blamed her action on the devil. Meanwhile, Komolafe said she would stay back in Asaba to rearrange her life once again: “I have already made up my mind to stay back in Asaba, find a job as a hairstylist and earn a living to fend for my son.” She affirmed.
